چکیده

Article history: Received 10 October 2006 Received in revised form 9 May 2007 Accepted 9 May 2007 Biodiversity and ecosystem data are both geo-referenced and “species-referenced”. Ecoregion classification systems are relevant to basic ecological research and have been increasingly used for making policy and management decisions. There are practical needs to integrate taxonomic data with ecoregion data in a GIS to visualize and explore species distribution conveniently. In this study, werepresent the speciesdistributed inanecoregionasa taxonomic tree and extend the classic GIS data model to incorporate operations on taxonomic trees. A prototype called GBD-Explorer was developed on top of the open source JUMP GIS.We use the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) terrestrial ecoregion and WildFinder species databases as an example to demonstrate the rich capabilities implemented in the prototype. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. Sql Supported Spatial Analysis for Web-gis

Spatial analysis is a fundamental function for geographic information systems. Although it is popular in many commercial desktop GIS packages, this capability is very limited in a Web-GIS environment, especially when relational database is used for geospatial data management. This paper proposes and prototypes a methodology to enhance spatial analysis capabilities of Web-GIS by extending and en...

Analysing the Impacts of Various Environmental Parameters on the Biodiversity Status of Major Habitats

Background: Anthropogenic impacts on the environment often result in loss of biodiversity. However, the effects of different parameters (such as soil pH) on biodiversity, which can be influenced by human activities, are poorly investigated on a global scale. The paper at hand proposes an approach to examine the relationship between biodiversity and several parameters, which can be anthropogenic...

A web GIS based integrated flood assessment modeling tool for coastal urban watersheds

Urban flooding has become an increasingly important issue in many parts of the world. In this study, an integrated flood assessment model (IFAM) is presented for the coastal urban flood simulation. A web based GIS framework has been adopted to organize the spatial datasets for the study area considered and to run the model within this framework. The integrated flood model consists of a mass bal...
